PRODUCT DEVELOPMENT TIMELINE

From concept to shelf-ready.

Taking a new cosmetic product from concept to shelf-ready can take time—often several months and, depending on the project, as long as nine months. Our role is to work closely with you throughout the journey, keeping each stage coordinated, transparent, and moving forward as smoothly and efficiently as possible.

The timing below provides a practical guide to the six principal stages of product development.

Discovery

1–2 weeks

We establish confidentiality and product development agreements, confirm the product brief, answer outstanding questions, and review any benchmark products or packaging samples you provide.

Material Sourcing

2–6 weeks

We source any specialized ingredients and supporting technical information not already in stock. Project-specific materials are charged at cost, including delivery, when supplier payment is required.

Sample Development

2–4 weeks

We create initial samples from the approved brief and send them for evaluation. Your clear feedback guides refinement, and the final formula is approved in writing before the project proceeds.

Safety and Stability Testing

6–12 weeks

Preservative efficacy and accelerated stability testing support product safety and quality, while real-time stability monitoring continues over the intended study period. We also review label compliance and coordinate evidence for proposed cosmetic claims.

Bulk Material Purchase

2–6 weeks

After formula approval and the agreed testing milestones, we source bulk raw materials for production. We keep you informed about supplier availability and expected lead times.

Production

2–6 weeks

Materials are prepared and mixed, products are filled and packed, and each batch is checked against the required quality standards before a short quality-assurance quarantine and release.

Timing note: These durations are estimates. Ingredient availability, packaging, testing scope, regulatory requirements, and the speed of client feedback can affect the overall schedule.

Because Innova also operates a contract manufacturing laboratory in Palm Springs, California, we consider batch process, raw-material availability, packaging and reproducibility throughout development—not only after the formula is approved.
